Underground Utility Locator – Fly In, Fly Out

Inline Group Inc. has an immediate opportunity available for a highly skilled Underground Utility Locator for our various Canadian Project locations. This position is Fort McMurray or Edmonton based with the potential of Fly In, Fly Out (FIFO) with varying shift rotations. Key Accountabilities
  • Record and maintain daily field notes of survey/line locating activities and logbooks of submitted field file information to coincide with CAD technician deliverables.
  • Perform basic survey requirements of setting up GPS rover and base station for utility layouts and as-builts.
  • Interpret real-time and post processed GPR data to provide accurate assessments of the area for construction, material, and equipment placement.
  • Perform various standard line locating sweep methods in conjunction with GPR scanning using GSSI geophysical equipment will be utilized - These scans are completed to accurately locate and identify but not limited to active lines, abandoned lines, voids/anomalies, buried foundations and concrete rebar that may be present in the underlying client specified areas.
  • Actively follow and adhere to the Alberta One-call safety, color coding, marking, labeling, and field marking practices.
  • Knowledge of various civil and concrete construction and engineering methods is critical. Scans will be performed to locate underground utilities prior to hydro-vacing, trenching and horizontal boring for pipeline, conduit, electrical, piling and foundation installation.
  • Effectively and actively communicate with the Client, Drafters and PMs, and Field Supervisors on items discovered and potential conflicts.
  • The candidate will have the ability to read and interpret CAD and GIS mapping and archived underground plans to aid in the line locating process for the clients.
  • Facilitate and maintain strong positive client relations.
  • Actively participate in Inline ISO 9001 Quality Program
  • Actively participate in Inline corporate HSE program
  • Actively participate in all clients mandated safety programs
  • Encourage safe work, safety & quality interventions. Lead by example for both fellow coworkers and all project personnel.

Minimum Qualification, Experience & Skills
  • 5+ years in construction & underground utility locating environment.
  • Utility Advanced Line Locating (UALL) Certificate required.
  • Transmission Advanced Line Locator Certification is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Trimble GPS systems and survey practices considered an asset.
  • Additional GSSI training in Radan 7, SIR-4000, and tablet is considered an asset.
  • GSSI post field Radan processing is considered an asset.
  • Concrete palm scanner investigations considered an asset.
  • The ability to work harmoniously amongst other trades, equipment and coworkers is essential.
  • CSTS 2020, CSO, WHMIS 2015 certifications
  • Strong critical thinking and communication skills
  • Detail oriented with a professional approach.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
 
Project Highlights
  • Projects are in the Fort McMurray and Edmonton area.
  • There maybe some project demands for remote areas throughout Canada. Accommodations, flights, and meals are provided at zero cost to the employee.
  • 80% more over time than a traditional 40-hour workweek (10–12-hour workdays)
  • Scheduled work shifts (IE. 14 days on, 14 days off or 14 days on, 7 days off). Shifts will vary depending on the worksite.
